BMI Calculator

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening measure of body fat. It compares your weight to your height and places the result in a standard weight band, using the same thresholds adopted by the World Health Organization and the CDC.

Your body weight without shoes or heavy clothing.

In imperial mode this is your total height in feet, e.g. 5.8 for 5 ft 10 in.

What Is the BMI Calculator?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most widely used screening measure of body fat. It compares your weight to your height and places the result in a standard weight band, using the same thresholds adopted by the World Health Organization and the CDC.

Enter your weight and height, choose your preferred units, and you will get your BMI with a full breakdown of the formula, the healthy weight range for your height, and what the result does and does not tell you.

How Does the BMI Calculator Work?

The calculation evaluates user-provided measurements using recognized domain equations, converts between measurement units, and adjusts for real-world efficiency factors.

BMI Calculator Formula & Variables

The core mathematical equation utilized by this calculator is expressed as:

BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)²

Variable Definitions

SymbolVariable Meaning & Units
mbody weight in kilograms
hheight in metres (cm ÷ 100)

BMI divides your mass in kilograms by your height squared in metres. Squaring the height means the index scales with the square of your stature, so taller people score lower for the same weight.

How to Use the BMI Calculator

  1. Enter your primary measurements in the input fields above.
  2. Select your preferred units (e.g. metric or imperial) if applicable.
  3. Review or adjust operational assumptions such as field efficiency.
  4. Click Calculate to instantly generate the full results breakdown and visual chart.
  5. Use the Reset button at any time to clear the form and test a new scenario.

Step-by-Step Example Calculation

A 70 kg adult who is 175 cm tall

Input Values:

system:metric
weight:70
height:175
Worked Steps: 70 ÷ 1.75² = 22.9, which sits in the healthy weight band.

Understanding Your Result

Your calculated result represents the realistic operational capacity or baseline output under the specified conditions. Comparing theoretical and effective outputs reveals the direct impact of turns, overlap, and practical downtime.

Factors That Affect the Result

Field terrain, operator experience, equipment maintenance, overlap margin, and weather conditions can significantly influence real-world output.

When Should You Use This Calculator?

Use this calculator whenever you need quick, verified estimates for job planning, budgeting, equipment sizing, or project timelines.

Assumptions & Limitations

  • BMI is a population screening tool. It cannot tell the difference between muscle and fat, so athletes often score high without carrying excess body fat.
  • It also ignores where fat is distributed. Waist circumference is a useful complement — a waist above 94 cm for men or 88 cm for women is generally considered elevated.
  • BMI thresholds are validated for adults 18–65. Children and adolescents need age- and sex-specific percentiles instead, and pregnancy is scored differently.
